THE NEXT GENERATION OF ROCKSTARS TO PERFORM AT B.B. KINGS BLUES CLUB ON MAY 20
More Than 15 Elementary School Rock ‘n’ Roll Bands to Showcase the Importance of Music Education
Nashville, Tenn. – May 16, 2012 – On Sunday, May 20, from 2-4 p.m., music enthusiasts from all over Nashville will gather at B.B. Kings Blues Club (152 2nd Avenue North) to show their support for music education as budding mini-rockers from the RockSTAR Music Education program take the stage.
The Spring Showcase is presented by RockSTAR Music Education, a non-profit organization dedicated to making music education accessible to school children. To mark its first year in Nashville and recognize the talents of its inaugural participants, RockSTAR is hosting an afternoon extravaganza with a stacked lineup of more than 15 elementary school bands. First graders with painted faces and rock 'n' roll attire will play instruments that are twice their size, while veteran sixth graders demonstrate their perfected guitar, drum, keyboard and vocal skills in classic rock ‘n’ roll hits and original tunes they have written themselves.
A STAR Education program, RockSTAR was founded eight years ago with the fundamental mission of bringing music back into schools that had forfeited their music programs because of budget cuts. RockSTAR has gained celebrity support from rock icons such as Slash, Santana, Britney Spears, Taylor Dayne, DMC, Chris Slade of AC/DC, Gene Simmons, Sammy Hagar and more. By harnessing the cognitive, social and creative benefits of music education, RockSTAR allows children to hone musical skills, gain self confidence, practice teamwork and develop a sense of professionalism. RockSTAR is the most established and successful non-profit after-school rock 'n' roll music education program in California. Today Rock STAR programs are in more than 60 elementary schools in Los Angeles, San Diego, New York and Nashville. RockSTAR brings music education back into schools and into the lives of children through an exciting, innovative and relevant format.
STAR Education is a charitable 501(c)(3) non-profit educational organization committed to helping students reach their full potential by offering affordable extended academic, recreational and enrichment programs; supporting and enhancing school curricula; inspiring student achievement; and expanding the cultural base of young people.
